This weekend we just stay home and sit in front of our fireplace most of the time to keep warm. One advantage of having fireplace at home is that you can use this one to save energy during the cold winter months. You can use it in daily basis to increase your savings. But due to the fact that we are both working :( we can only use it during weekend or during holidays.
To reduce heat loss from the fireplace we keep our fireplace damper closed unless a fire is going. Keeping the damper open is like keeping a window wide open during the winter; it allows warm air to go right up the chimney. And if we never use our fireplace, we plug and seal the chimney flue. Hope this tips are useful for those who are using fireplace to keep warm during winter..:)
