You may read this one yesterday from yahoo tech blog the “Last-minute Conficker Survival Guide”. I also panicked and did what were instructed in the site. I stayed late, make sure that I will do all of this before the clock tic-tac at 12am (April 1). I downloaded the Symantec's Conficker (aka Downadup) tool to check if my system was infected by Conficker worm. First, I just simply downloaded the removal tool from Symantec official site then saved it in my windows desktop. Before running the tool, I closed all the running programs in my laptop and turn-off the System Restore under My Computer Properties. It took almost two hours for the removal tool to scan the entire system for possible infection. Luckily after long wait my laptop was not infected..yeheyy!!! Finally, I did sleep soundly last night with no worries for April 1 attack… :D
What I read about conficker worm is that it spreads by using shared folders on networked computers, to ensure that the worm does not reinfect the computer after it has been removed, Symantec suggests sharing with Read Only access or by using password protection. Since I am not connected in the network so I just turn off the system restore and turn it back after the tool finished scanning my laptop. You can read in this technology blog to know more about how this worm works, when it was originated, and how to make your system safe future attack.
