Federal and State Taxes

April 15 is fast approaching, the deadline for filing your taxes if you are currently living in the US.

If you are a new tax filer one important thing to consider is to have all the right information before hand. This will make your work half the battle when doing your taxes whether you’re completing your taxes in an office, at home or both.

Two years ago we let H&R Block do our taxes and had problems with it, so we decided last year to do it by ourselves. This year we are planning to use the eSmart Tax to file for free.

We find eSmart Tax easy-to-use and no need for us to download software to use the system. Its added feature that I like most is that it has a return-maximizing tool to make sure that we get the biggest refund possible.

Here's the good thing, if your last name is Johnson, you are lucky since you can use their Deluxe edition for free. You can have it in this site Johnsons file free.

File your tax early but if you have a refund, there is no penalty for filing late. Penalties are calculated on the amount due. Since there is no amount due, there is no penalty.
