Road Trip going to Oxford Alabama

During our two weeks of vacation we first went to Oxford, Alabama to attend my husband’s friend’s wedding. We drove from Maryland to Alabama and it took us around 12 hours. We stopped at a rest area for around 10 minutes or so every 3 hours just to stretch out. We left around 3pm from MD and arrived at Oxford, Alabama around 2am (MD time) and 1am (AL Time). We stopped at every state welcome center. We started stopping at Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and then Alabama. By far, the welcome center and state that I liked most is Tennessee.

We parked at the 24 hour Wal-Mart there while waiting for 10am to arrive. We slept in the car for about 4 hours (which we thought at first) but it seems we only had 3 hours sleep. We wondered at first why the time ran so fast, but we forgot that Alabama is an hour early compared with MD. The car and our watch time are not automatically updated. We just found it out when my husband checked his cell phone and determined that we are an hour earlier than what we expected. We had our breakfast at McDonalds in Wal-Mart and bought food, some on sale t-shirts and swim wear.

We found a cheap hotel (Econo Lodge) near the place where the wedding will be held. It only cost us $40 a day and the room had a microwave, small fridge, TV, two beds, bathroom and free breakfast. The hotel also had an outdoor pool. Even though the breakfast was not that good, I think the cost of the hotel is very affordable if you want to save a few bucks.
